How Long Do You Cook Wings in an Air Fryer


Wings are one of my favorite snacks to cook, and they’re also one of the most versatile. You can dip them in BBQ sauce, buffalo sauce, or caramelize them with brown sugar. I like to throw some wings in an air fryer because they cook it all at once and there’s no pesky pan grease!

What is an Air Fryer?

An air fryer is a device that uses hot air to cook food. It’s similar in concept to a convection oven, but it uses fewer calories and less oil than traditional deep frying methods.

In an air fryer, you place your food on a wire rack inside of a box with circulating heated air. The fan circulates hot air around the food until it has cooked through and browned nicely on all sides (or at least enough for your liking).

How To Use An Air Fryer

Before you begin cooking, be sure to read the owner’s manual for your air fryer.

The first step is to preheat the air fryer. Most models have an automatic timer that will turn off when the set temperature has been reached; others require you to press a button or turn a dial to start cooking. Once it’s hot enough and ready for use, place food into baskets on rotating trays inside (or directly on top of) your fryer basket(s). The amount of time it takes for food items like wings depends largely on their size: small pieces may cook in 5 minutes while large ones could take up to 20 minutes or more depending on how crispy you want them!

It depends on the size of your wings. Smaller wings will cook faster than larger ones, so you’ll want to check them often. A thermometer is a good way to test for doneness: if you insert one into an uncooked wing and it reads 165 degrees F or higher, it’s ready!

How to Make the Perfect Wing

Preheat your air fryer to the desired temperature. Pat wings dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper. Place them skin side up in a single layer in the air fryer basket, then cook for 10 minutes. Flip the wings over and cook for 5 more minutes on this side (or until they reach your preferred level of crispiness).

  • Baking – This is the most basic way to prepare wings. Simply preheat your air fryer, put on some oven mitts, and place a rack inside it with your pre-battered chicken pieces on top of it. Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes or until crispy and golden brown (but not burned).
  • Deep Frying – If you want that extra layer of crunchy goodness that comes from deep frying, this method is perfect! Fill up your pot with vegetable oil until it reaches 2 inches above where the food sits–you’ll need enough room so there’s no splashing when you add them all in later–and set heat between 350-375 degrees Fahrenheit while allowing time for oil temperature adjustment before adding anything else (about 10 minutes). Once ready, drop each piece into hot oil one by one until fully submerged; let cook for 3 minutes then remove using slotted spoon onto paper towel lined plate where they can drain excess grease away from themselves as well as any remaining liquid left behind inside pot itself.* Air frying – This method works best if done using parchment paper rather than foil because parchment allows steam escape without compromising flavor profile too much (if any at all!). It also helps prevent grease splatter which makes cleanup easier down road too! Be sure though: do not cover objects being cooked inside container/bag during process because doing so could cause fire hazard due its small size


The best way to cook wings in an air fryer is to use the baking tray, or basket. This will give you an even cook and crispy skin on both sides. You can also try cooking them on the wire rack, but I find that it’s more work than using the basket!
