How Long to Cook Beef Tenderloin Per Pound

Cooking a beef tenderloin to perfection is all about time and temperature. The first step is determining the weight of your roast, then you’ll use that number to determine how long it should be cooked in the oven.

Step 1

As you can see, the tenderloin is a cut of beef that is tender and lean. It’s also quite expensive, so if you’re going to be cooking it at home, it’s important to know how long it takes to cook per pound.

When cooking this cut of meat at high heat (more than 350 degrees Fahrenheit), your best bet is grilling or pan frying with oil or butter until medium rare (about 135 degrees internal temperature). If roasting in an oven set at 350 F., expect it will take about 45 minutes per pound for medium rare but plan on about an hour per pound if you want something more well done like well done steakhouse quality (160 F.).

Step 2

The next step is to cook the tenderloin. Tenderloin has a reputation for being a lean cut of meat, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be cooked properly. The best way to cook tenderloin is medium rare or medium–if you like your beef well done, then this is not the cut for you!

When cooking your beef tenderloin per pound, use an instant-read thermometer to check its internal temperature at 145 degrees Fahrenheit before removing it from heat. This ensures that all bacteria are killed off and prevents any harmful food poisoning from occurring later down the road (plus it tastes better).

Step 3

The cooking time is dependent on the thickness of your beef tenderloin and how done you want it. The thicker the meat, the longer it will take to cook; likewise, if you prefer medium rare or medium well versus rare or well done then that will affect how long it takes to cook as well.

If you don’t have a meat thermometer handy (though we recommend getting one), there’s another way to tell when your beef tenderloin has reached its perfect temperature: touch test! When pressed with a finger before slicing into it, if pressing an indentation remains in place then that means there’s still some firmness left in there–it’s not ready yet! But if nothing happens when pressing down on top of an indentation made by pressing down earlier then congratulations! Your meat is ready for slicing up into steaks or other dishes!

There’s a formula for how long to cook beef tenderloin per pound.

The formula is the weight of your tenderloin divided by the desired temperature. For example, if you have a 1 pound piece at 130 degrees F and you want it medium-rare, it will take about 20 minutes to cook.

Cooking beef tenderloin is a great way to impress your family and friends. It is a relatively easy meal to prepare, but it can be tricky if you don’t know what temperature to cook the steak at or how long it will take per pound. This article has given you all the information needed in order to make this dish perfect every time!
