A Meatloaf that Exceeds Expectations

I’ve made countless meatloaf recipes over the years, from mushroom gravy meatloaf to turkey meatloaf. But when I stumbled upon this amazing copycat Cracker Barrel meatloaf recipe, I knew I had to give it a try. And boy, am I glad I did! The result was beyond my wildest expectations. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on this.

The Secret is in the Sauce

Let’s start by whipping up a simple yet delicious sauce topping. All you need is ketchup, brown sugar, and a hint of mustard. Mix these three ingredients together, and you’re ready to move on to the next step.

A Flavorful Combination

In a large bowl, beat three eggs until well whisked. Now, instead of the usual bread crumbs or saltine crackers, this recipe calls for Ritz cracker crumbs. Simply crush a sleeve and a half of Ritz crackers in a plastic bag, and then add them to the beaten eggs.

Next, finely dice some onions and green bell peppers. You can skip the peppers if you’re not a fan, but trust me, they add an incredible flavor to the meatloaf. Add the diced vegetables to the bowl along with some milk, salt, and black pepper. And for that extra kick, I’m using sharp cheddar cheese (although Cracker Barrel uses Colby jack cheese). Give everything a good mix.

The Perfect Loaf

Now, it’s time to add the star ingredient – ground beef. I recommend an 85/15 blend for optimum flavor and juiciness. Mix the ground beef with the rest of the ingredients until well combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in a tough meatloaf.

Transfer the meatloaf mixture onto a foil-lined baking pan and shape it into a loaf. Pop it into a preheated 350 degrees Fahrenheit oven and let it bake for 30 minutes.

The Ultimate Topping

After 30 minutes, it’s time to add the finishing touch – the topping. Take the meatloaf out of the oven and generously spread the sauce you prepared earlier. Brush it all over the loaf, making sure to cover every inch. Then, put the meatloaf back into the oven for another 30 minutes, or until it’s cooked through.

Let it Rest

The smell wafting from the oven is intoxicating, but hold yourself back for just a little longer. Once the meatloaf is done, resist the temptation to cut into it right away. Let it cool for about 15 minutes before slicing. Trust me, the wait will be worth it!

A Perfect Pairing

To complete your Cracker Barrel-inspired meal, why not whip up a copycat version of their famous hash brown casserole? You can find the recipe in one of my upcoming videos, so stay tuned! Having both dishes baking in the oven at the same time makes for a convenient and delicious dinner.

The Verdict?

As I mentioned earlier, this meatloaf exceeded all my expectations. It was incredibly moist, bursting with flavor, and had the perfect texture. It was so good, in fact, that there were no leftovers for midnight meatloaf sandwiches! My family absolutely loved it, and I’m sure yours will too.
