Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1/2 cup of cream of wheat or semolina flour
  • 2 tablespoons of canola oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black mustard seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped green pepper (seeded)
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped cilantro
  • About 20 peanuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup of green peas
  • A little more than 1 cup of water

Preparing the Green Peas:

  1. Boil the water and green peas together on high heat.
  2. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to medium-high.
  3. While the peas are cooking, we’ll start preparing the upma.

Cooking the Upma:

  1. Heat your pan over medium-high heat and add 2 tablespoons of oil.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add cumin seeds, black mustard seeds, green chilies, and peanuts.
  3. Stir fry for a few seconds until the spices release their aroma.
  4. Add the cream of wheat and stir-fry for about 2 minutes until it turns light golden brown and starts to smell delicious.

Final Steps:
